In 2007, EU customs registered a 16% increase in fake goods seized. In the United States, nearly $200 million in goods were seized for intellectual property infringement.
This volume of counterfeit products not only has a financial impact, it also damages a company's reputation. Many consumers don't realize that the poor quality of a product is due to the fact that it is a fake. While cigarettes and clothing continue to be the most faked products, there has been growth in cosmetics and personal care products, toys, foods, computer equipment and medicines, sectors in which problems can be dangerous to consumers.
Fraud hits profitability, decreases revenues, hurts the relationship between brands and consumers and may even put people at risk. Companies urgently need to adopt efficient countermeasures. Certilogo believes that to be truly efficient, these countermeasures must examine the problem in a new light and go beyond traditional solutions.
